Will sugarcane juice harm diabetic people?

Sugar cane juice is one of the most common and loved beverage enjoyed by people in India during summers. Although any type of natural fruit beverage will have several number of benefits.

Basically, sugar cane juice is offered and sold by street vendors who make it with lime or mint to enhance its flavour. The natural, unprocessed sugar cane juice is a good source of several antioxidants and nutrients. These are the main reasons why it is claimed to have several health benefits. Moreover, it also contains good amount of electrolytes that have been studied for their hydrating effects.

Keeping aside the commercially available processed packed sugar cane juice which are quite processed. Here we will talk about the unprocessed pressed sugar cane juice.

Not only this, in traditional medicinal processes it is also used to treat liver, kidney and other diseases. Because of its sweet and sugary nature, people still wonder whether it will harm in diabetes.

But science reveals that to some extent it may be helpful in diabetes.

• How sugar cane juice will affect in diabetes?

Although sugar cane juice has good reserves of antioxidants and plants compounds. But then also the major part of it is sugar and carbohydrates. Around 1 Cup of sugar cane juice will have approximately 50 grams of sugar. But the thing is then also sugar cane juice has low glycemic index.

Because the sugar level present in sugar cane juice do not rise blood sugar levels immediately. Similar to other high sugar drinks, sugar cane juice is also considered as a poor choice for diabetes.

Consumption of sugar cane juice in massive amounts may result in severe conditions in a diabetic person. Thus, one should avoid this beverage entirely.
