Pandemic : Through the eyes of a 15 year old

It has been almost six and a half months since our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the nationwide wide lockdown on account of the deadly coronavirus that shook the workings of the entire world. Since then all of us have been advised to quarantine ourselves at home and go the extra mile when it comes to personal hygiene. Sanitization has to be followed and established for everything that is brought into the house. Suddenly our way of living has drastically changed and the new normal never fails to amaze us at every step.

Initially when the lockdown started I was, like any other kid very happy about not going to school. I could get up late and not worry about my attendance. I could play all day and not be reprimanded for it. As a child I felt cheerful and giddy. But then soon I got bored of it and stared missing my school friends and my teachers. Back then I did not realize the gravity of the situation.

But now I do. Staying in at home I have realized that the lockdown has succeeded in teaching me some very valuable learnings of life.

The news channels have been unstoppable in keeping us updated about the happenings of the world. But at the same time it has instilled a sense of fear in us by showing the dark and gruesome side of it. People are suffering. Some are dying from hunger. Some are begging to get back to their homeland. Some are craving to be with their family. Apart from feeling disheartened for these people I have realized how fortunate I am to be with my family. I have learnt that often we get so busy in achieving our materialistic goals and cursing our failures that we forget to be grateful for the little blessings in our life. I have food to eat, a home to live in and a family to rejoice with. This alone is enough to keep me sane and content for my entire life and I am grateful to God for all of it.

Another thing that I have realized is that we often underrate the thought of saving money. In this time there are a lot of people who do not have any money to run their expenses with. Therefore I have learnt the importance of saving money.

Nobody had expected these sudden turn of events. None of us were prepared for it. Therefore I have learnt that life is unpredictable and has its own ways to surprise us. We should always be prepared for the unknown and be willing to adjust to changes. After all that is what life is – A series of ups and downs.

Lastly I have noticed that there are so many people that are ending their life because they are unable to deal with the mental stress. I believe that everyone has a reason to live for and we just have to be observant enough to notice it . It is normal to feel low at times but instead of succumbing to it we should instead help ourselves overcome it. I have learnt that my family is my strength and no matter whatever happens, with their love and support I can get through anything.

Every problem has a solution and every cloud has a silver lining. These are a few of my learnings from the pandemic. I hope it motivates and helps everyone who reads it.
