Low fat or fat free pasteurised milk, yoghurt, cheese and ice cream can be tolerated. For beverages one should always use bottled water, herbal tea, coconut water, juices and broth during typhoid.

2. Foods one should avoid.

Foods that are high in fibre content are the limitations of typhoid diet. These are quite difficult to digest in most of the cases, insoluble fibre remains in intestine. High fibre fruits include raw fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. In most of the cases spicy foods and foods that are high in fat content are also neglected.

Avoid vegetables like broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, onions. Always try to avoid whole grains during typhoid diet that include barley, a buckwheat, Brown rice, quinoa. Leguminous varieties such as black beans, kidney beans, lentils, chick peas, should be kept aside.

It is recommended to not to use nuts such as almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, pistachios, walnuts.

Till now there are limited amount of research and studies available on typhoid diet. But all the available amount of studies point towards the fact that low fibre diets should be beneficial for certain gastrointestinal conditions.

Scientific research is also showed that following a bland diet with low fibre, easily digestible foods like bananas, white rice, Apple sauce, and toast can help in improving diarrhoea.

The main motive behind a typhoid diet is to give as less stress one can on digestive system. That’s why foods that are easily digestible are added in typhoid diet.
