Foods must avoid with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Although a healthy balance diet requires eating a wide variety of nutritious food. But people with irritable bowel syndrome may notice that certain food items trigger uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

Till now there are no such sure foods that may affect IBS in people. Different varieties of food trigger different persons with IBS. So it becomes quite difficult to draw a single list of foods to avoid.

But then also here we are mentioning the food items that mostly create bad digestive symptoms in IBS. Avoiding the below mentioned food items will surely help to regulate your bowel movements with fewer cramps and less bloating.

• Gluten.

Gluten is mostly found in grains like wheat, barley, rye. This protein variety is mostly found to be creating problems for people with IBS.

Health experts recommend that a gluten free diet can improve IBS symptoms in around half of the people. Instead of gluten products, just opt for gluten free options like quinoa, oats, buckwheat, almond flour, coconut flour.

• Dairy products.

Sometimes people may experience several symptoms of IBS, because of lactose intolerance. Moreover, dairy is quite high in fat and can lead to diarrhoea. It’s a fact that switching to a low fat or not fat dairy may reduce your symptoms of IBS. Just have a look on your dietary practice and if you feel that dairy or milk products are causing uncomfortable digestive problems. Then consider switching to dairy alternatives such as plant based milks.

• Legumes and beans.

Although beans, lentils, peas are considered as a great source of plant based quality protein and fibre. But in certain population they can create IBS symptoms. Certain compounds that are present in it can develop resistance to digestion by intestinal enzymes. If you observe signs and symptoms like increase in gas, bloating and cramps with IBS. It is advised to keep beans and lentils aside.

• Processed and heavily fried foods.

French fries, pizzas, cookies are the best known typical Western diet foods. But eating too much of these foods can cause health problems. The high fat content is especially responsible for people with IBS. In most of the cases, heavily processing and frying the food can actually change the chemical makeup of the food and making it more difficult to digest. Addition to heavily fried, just try to avoid added salt, sugar and fat products.

• Drinks containing caffeine.

Most of the people in our country are dependent on tea or coffee in the morning for their digestive regularity. But these caffeinated drinks can has a stimulating effect on digestive system that can cause diarrhoea. It is seen that in most of the cases coffees, sodas, and energy drinks that contain caffeine can trigger people with IBS.
