Does water have a expiry date?

You must have gone through the label of purchased pack of bottled water which has an expiration date mentioned on it. Almost every brand of bottled water available in India have an expiry date.

But the thing to wonder is, do water really have any expiry time and if it is safe to consume water after the mentioned expiry date.

• Do water go bad after expiry?

As studied and researched till now, the tap water can be stored and consumed for more than six months with minimal risk of any adverse side effects. But the thing also depends upon how properly it is stored.

If the tap water is being carbonated then can become flat as the gas will slowly escape. One may also experience a development of stale taste over the time in regular water. This taste is generally caused by carbon dioxide, which gets mixed with water through air.

• Expiration of bottled water.

Although water itself do not have any expiry date. But then also bottled drinking water have an expiration date mentioned on its level. The thing is it is not a good idea to drink water from a plastic bottle that has a long life. Most of the times the plastic began to Leach into the water with passage of time. It will contaminate water with several chemicals that are harmful for body. Slowly, these harmful chemicals will get accumulated in your gut and will have severe health effects.

This is the main reason why drinking bottled water have an expiry date mentioned on it.

So avoiding two scientific studies and claim by scientists, tap water can be stored safely for around six months. But it is important to check the proper storage method and container. But always the bottle drinking water should be consumed few months before the mentioned expiry date.
