Bananas causing gas and bloating ! Know, why.
Bananas are one of the most consumed fruit all around the world. People from all sections of the society love to eat them because they are convenient, inexpensive and tasty fruit.
But then also some people report that eating bananas cause bloating and heavy gas production.
Although since olden times in our country bananas have been used to help in diarrhoea and constipation. But nowadays people are reporting that eating bananas cause bloating in their abdomen.
Generally, bloating is quite common in which one feels distention and pressure in abdomen region. Sometimes there is a production of slow moving gas in intestine too.
• Maybe because of sorbitol.
Sorbitol basically is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol. Bananas contain sorbitol in good amount. This compound may be one of the possible reasons behind the side effects regarding gas and bloating in people.
Human body requires much time to metabolise this compound. Moreover, sorbitol can cause laxative effects in intestine, if consumed in heavy amounts.
When sorbitol gets broken down in digestive system, It results in production of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane gas.
• Fibre content may also be responsible.
Bananas are known for their high soluble fibre content. They are basically a type of carbohydrate that dissolves in water and may result in heavy gas production.
This is the main reason why in India it is advised to not to consume water after eating banana. This can trigger a reaction with soluble fibre, resulting in gas production.
Intake of high amounts of soluble fibre is also responsible for constipation, bloating. It is one of the most common experience in people who already have any digestive issue.
• Preventions.
If you think that Banana is causing bloating and abdominal gas. Then health experts advise to intake small portions at time intervals. Just instead of eating whole large banana, eat small parts of it in two meals.
Try to avoid green unripe bananas because they contain high resistant starch and sugar content. Yellow ripped bananas already have converted starch in simpler sugar forms, one can opt for them.
