Several experts and health enthusiast claimed that one should eat a post workout meal during anabolic window. Basically, this term refers to a short time after training, when muscles are repairing and recovering. According to claims, and advises the anabolic window lasts for about 30 minutes. It is also called as metabolic window or protein window.

Just because of this, many believe that eating protein and carbohydrates in this phase will give you excellent results.

After an intense strength training session, your body just turns into an anabolic state. This involves a range of several cellular processes that will optimise muscle growth and repair. Proteins and carbohydrates act as a fuel for this anabolic process.

Although the concept of narrow anabolic window is a widespread belief. But scientific researches and studies point towards the fact that it is not as short as common believes.

During a small human trial session it was found that pre and post workout protein intake both produces similar muscles impact. Several other studies performed all around the world have comparable results. Participants who consumed way just after exercise or one hour after both experienced similar changes in muscle end protein synthesis.

However, it is the fact that muscle breakdown increases after intense workout session. But several studies examine the post workout anabolic response that happens after protein intake. The result was that the response is mainly due to protein synthesis rather than protein breakdown.

But if one goes through intense strength training session while fasting. According to studies, fasted exercise significantly increased post training muscle breakdown. Thus it’s advisable to take protein source immediately after session.

So after going through above mentioned facts and figures, we can conclude that according to science there is no such anabolic window. That’s clearly means that a later post workout meal will not significantly boost your muscle growth. There is no link between immediately taking protein and increasing muscle growth.

Just go through your convenience and eat post workout meal when it works for you.
